Hair transplant

Baldness is a source of stress for many people. Hair loss is more than 60% in men and about 10% in women. The lack of hair on the scalp may increase the risk of actinic damage (sun damage) and cancer. However, hair transplantation today is more for aesthetic reasons and is the most requested type of cosmetic surgery for men. A normal person has an average of about 100,000 hairs on the head. Every day, up to 50-100 hair loss is normal. These places are filled with newly developed hair strands. People with blond or red hair will find more hair than them. This number decreases from puberty to middle age by up to 30%, which is part of the normal aging process.

Hair transplantation; In the scalp are 65-85 follicular units, which is 2cm deep. This corresponds to 2cm 230-290 strands of hair. This is 2-3 times the number of follicle strands of hair. - Izmir hair transplantation, - hair transplantation

The cause of hair loss is usually a combination of three factors: genetic predisposition (positive family history), aging and hormonal changes. In addition, trauma, infections, pregnancy and lactation, chemotherapy for cancer, the use of certain medications, excessive stress and excessive smoking can accelerate hair loss, causing baldness or extremely severe thinning of the hair. In women, the typical male pattern of hair loss can also be seen. However, in women, hair loss usually occurs in the form of thinning on the entire scalp.

Who can undergo a hair transplant?

A hair transplant can be performed on any person where the amount of hair in the area behind the ears (occipital and temporal area) is sufficient. In general, it is only recommended after the age of 30, if the thinning slows down (there are also people who can transplant hair at the age of 24-25 years). If it is done at an early age, where the hair loss continues, from the second and even from the third session is not to depart. Hair transplantation uses the patients' own hair, which can no longer fail due to the genetic programs ... Hair, beard, mustache and eyebrow transplants can also be used.

What techniques are used for hair transplantation?

Punch grafts (10-15 hairs), mini-grafts (2-4 hairs), microtransplants (1-2 hairs), slit grafts (4-10 hairs), band grafts (30-40 hairs) are the techniques used. For even more dramatic results, flap techniques, tissue swelling techniques, and scalp reduction (bald area surgical removal) may be used. There are many factors that can influence the ideal outcome. The number of sessions, the hair color and the structure of the hair are some of them. Light, wavy or curly hair provides better coverage than straight and dark hair.

How is the process going?

After the operation, the scalp is covered with a bandage (there are also doctors who leave it open). The bandages are removed after one day. After 2-3 days, the transplant area is washed carefully. Thus, blood and medicine remnants are removed. Patients with a hair transplant can start working again after 3-4 days. Excessive effort, heavy workouts and sexual activity are prohibited for 7-10 days as this may result in surgical bleeding and loss of the graft. Hair loss will be seen in the first six weeks. However, this is temporary and an expected situation. Thereafter, growth continues with the development of new hair. The final result will only be reached after 6 months. Therefore, it is not correct six months ago to decide whether or not a second session or revision is required.
